Virginia Gayle Madsen (born September 11th in 1961) is an American film producer and actress. Her film debut was in Class (1983), which was shot in her hometown of Chicago. David Lynch, the director of the science fiction film Dune (1984), cast her as Princess Irulan when she relocated to Los Angeles. Madsen starred in several films for teens that were successful, such as Electric Dreams (1984), Modern Girls ( 1986) and Fire with Fire (1986). Madsen was also recognized for her performance as Helen Lyle, the main character in horror film Candyman (1992). Madsen won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Alexander Payne's comedy-drama Sideways (2004).
