Winona Laura Horowitz, born on October 29 1971, is an American actress. Originally playing quirky roles, in the 1990s she gained acclaim due to her diverse roles in productions of diverse genres. Her many accolades include the Screen Actors Guild Award, a Golden Globe Award and nominations for an Grammy Award and two Academy Awards. She also gained recognition in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice (1988). Her performances in Heathers (1989), Great Balls of Fire (89), Mermaids(90), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) added to her popularity. She garnered critical acclaim and two consecutive Academy Award nominations for her portrayals of the socialite May Welland in Martin Scorsese's The Age of Innocence (1993) and Jo March in the fifth film adaptation of Little Women (1994).
