 Thomas Sowell, born June 30th, 1930 Thomas Sowell, born June 30, 1930, is an American economist. He taught economics at Cornell University, the University of California, Los Angeles as well as, since 1980, at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University which is where he's currently a Senior Fellow. Sowell is a writer from a libertarian conservative perspective and advocates supply-side economics. Over 30 books were written by the author and many of them have been published as revised editions. In 2002 he was awarded the National Humanities Medal.What the welfare system and other kinds of government programs do is paying people to be ineffective. The welfare system, along with other programs of the government, allow people to fail.
