Michael Oher was born in Memphis, Tennessee on May 28 the 28th of May, 1986. Oher was the son of Denise Oher, who was an drug addict and alcoholic as well as a father, Michael Jerome Williams, who was often in prison. He was not disciplined or given the attention he needed because of his childhood. He was a repeat student in both the first and second grade and went to eleven different schools in his first nine years as a student. He was placed in foster care when he was seven, and alternated between different foster homes and experiencing periods of being homeless. Oher's biological father, who was former cellmate, Denise Oher's brother was murdered in prison while Oher was a senior high school student. When Michael Oher was 16 years old, Sean Tuohy was and Leigh Anne Tuohy became the legal guardians of Oher. Oher was assigned an instructor who worked with the student for 20 hours per week.
