 The Promise is set in the Ottoman Empire's final days. The story follows a love triangle of Michael who is a talented medical student and Ana (Charlotte Le Bon) she is an American journalist from Paris. When he goes to Constantinople to study, he meets Armenian Ana (Charlotte Le Bon) and is in love with her, however, she has a crush on the American photographer Chris (Christian Bale), assigned to Turkey to record the first genocide in the 20th century, when the Turks eliminated the Armenian minority. A love triangle settles amidst the terrible events of war.I chose to watch this film partly because I am a history buff and also because of the strong leading actors. It was obvious that the film's director was not competent enough to handle their acting skills. It was at times painful to observe how difficult it was to bring authenticity or life into their characters. It's hard to connect emotionally with characters who don't appear real.
