A screenshot (also called screen capture, or screen capture) is a digital image that shows the contents of a computer's display. A screenshot is created by the operating system or software running on the device powering the display.Additionally, screenshots can be captured by an external camera, using photography to capture contents on the screen. The first screenshots were created with the first interactive computers around 1960.Through the 1980s, computer operating systems did not universally have built-in functionality for capturing screenshots. Sometimes text-only screens could be converted to a text file, but the result would only show the content on the screen, not its appearance of the screen, nor could graphics screens be saved in this manner. Certain systems had the BSAVE command that could be used to record the screen data stored in memory. However this would require access to an BASIC prompt. A system with composite video output could connect to a VCR and save complete screencasts. However, this required access to an BASIC prompt. Screenshot kits for regular (film-based) cameras had an antireflective hood connected between the lens of the screen and the lens of the camera as well as a closeup lens. Because of its speedy results and the ability to focus precisely, Polaroid film was a popular option for taking images.
