 Renee Kathleen Zellweger (/r@'neI "'zelweg@r/ born April 25 1969) is an American actress. The recipient of various accolades which include two Academy Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards, she was among the most highly-paid actresses of the world in 2007.Born and raised in Texas, Zellweger studied English literature at the University of Texas at Austin. After a brief time on stage in college Zellweger was initially interested in the profession of journalist. But she discovered acting appealing after her short performance on stage. After playing minor parts in Dazed & Confused (1993) as well as Reality Bites (1994), she was offered a leading part in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Next Generation (1994). She rose to prominence by playing a lead role in the romantic comedy Jerry Maguire (1996), the drama One True Thing (1998) and the black comedy Nurse Betty (2000), getting the Golden Globe Award for the final of these.For playing Bridget Jones in the romantic comedy Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) and Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago (2002), Zellweger received consecutive nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
