Dumier

 Honore-Victorin Daumier, French painter, sculptor and printmaker (French pronunciation"onoRe domeje," February 26, 1808 until February 10, 1879) was a French artist and sculptor who's work provides insight into France's social and political landscape, starting with the Revolution of 1830 and ending with the fall of Napoleonic Empire in 1870. He earned a living throughout most of his career by creating cartoons and caricatures of politicians and other figures and satirizing the behavior of his countrymen in newspapers and periodicals, and became popular during his lifetime, and is still known today. He was a republican democrat who attacked the class of the bourgeoisie and the church lawyers, the judiciary and politicians as well as the monarchy. He was jailed for several months in 1832, following the publication of Gargantua, a particularly insulting and sexy portrayal of King Louis-Philippe. Daumier was also a talented artist. He was frequently present at the Paris Salons, but was mostly ignored and dismissed by the majority of critics and the French public.
