William Bret Baier (/'bret 'beI@r(born August 4 1970) is the host of Special Report with Bret Baier on the Fox News Channel and is the chief political correspondent for Fox. He was previously the channel's Chief White House Correspondent and Pentagon correspondent.Baier was born in Rumson, New Jersey, to a family with mixed German and Irish origins. Raised Catholic, he attended Marist School, a private Roman Catholic high school in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating in 1988. Baier was then a student at the methodist DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where he graduated in 1992 with a BA degree in political sciences and English. Baier was a DePauw student and a member the Xi Chapter Sigma Chi fraternity. After finishing in 1992, Baier joined WRAL-TV, a CBS affiliate located in Raleigh, North Carolina. He submitted an audition tape to Fox News in 1998, and was hired to be the station's Atlanta bureau chief. He traveled from Georgia to Arlington in Virginia to report on the Pentagon attack on September 11, 2001. He did not return to the Atlanta bureau, and instead was appointed the network's Pentagon reporter.
